Justin Bieber rapping at Halo Reach launch party

14 October 2010

The blogosphere almost immediately began pitting teen pop sensation Justin Bieber against teen rap upstart, and Run DMC legend Rev. Run‘s son, Diggy Simmons against each other when Bieber unleashed his “Speaking In Tongues” freestyle this morning. But there’s no need to create negative competition between the two. Not only are Bieber and Simmons friends and shared the stage in concert in the past, they’re working on a new song together.

Producer Boi-1da, known for producing multiple tracks for Drake (“Best I Ever Had,” “Over,” “Forever” to name a few) and Eminem‘s “Not Afraid,” dropped the deets to Neon Limelight in a telephone interview yesterday (October 13).

After clearing up rumors that he was working with the Jonas Brothers (he hasn’t yet, but he’d love to. “I’d never be appalled to work with Jonas Brothers. They’re huge and they make good music,” he told us), the Toronto-based producer revealed that after tackling rap and R&B beats, he wants to take on pop. “I have some stuff in the works,” he said. “I’m actually working on a song with Diggy Simmons and Justin Bieber. It’s going to be crazy.”

Other details on the track — where it will appear, the title, etc. — are still being decided.
Diggy isn’t the only teen rapper Bieber is trying to gain more street cred from. According to VIBE.com, he’s also working on a joint mixtape with Young Money’s Lil Twist. That should definitely be enough to quiet the teen beef instigators for awhile.

Hip-hop heads, DJs and fans alike are buzzing about the Kanye West/Justin Bieber/Raekwon collabo.

According to Rae himself, 'Ye and Bieber are currently en route to New York to make good on this weekend's Twitter love fest.

"Yall asked for it now we're gonna deliver," the Chef tweeted.

DJ Scream of Atlanta’s Hot 107.9 (and the region’s elite mixtape DJ) thinks that the collaboration could be huge.

"Even if it’s the wackest record ever created, it’s still a big record because you got the biggest pop star out right now, a hip-hop legend and a current hip-hop superstar. So you gotta at least give it a chance people. It could be the next big pop hit or it could be just a conversation piece."

He added, "I understand where the hip-hop purists might be coming from and I can imagine what their comments are. I wasn’t a big fan of the Kanye, Beyonce and Charlie Wilson record, but let’s hear it and if it’s garbage, then let’s talk about it then, but let them work."

Music journo Jozen Cummings calls the potential jam "a great look for music as a whole."

"Today's fan isn't as concerned about genres as they are about acts. As artists, they should be free to do what they want," he said.

But he’s still hoping that the song actually makes sense musically.

"I hope it sounds like something only Raekwon, Kanye, and Bieber can do. The last thing I want to hear is a verse from 'Ye, a verse from Rae, and Justin on the hook with a bridge. Any two rappers and a singer can do that. They need to make sure the song sounds as unique and different in the studio as it does on paper."

New York Hot 97’s DJ Bobby Trends says "I can see myself playing it on the radio…would love to hear [it] first…anyone can flop."

But, he knows it’s unlikely that this record will disappoint.

"I definitely think that this collaboration makes sense and can't wait to hear it. Three different generation artists together bring three different generation listeners…[I’m a] big Raekwon fan, I see Bieber’s hustle and whatever Kanye touches is usually spectacular!"

Justin Bieber has become hip-hop's favorite stepchild. The teen pop star has cemented a friendship with fellow Canadian performer Drake, landed collaborations with Ludacris and his label boss Usher, and recently won the praise of the Game. if that wasn't enough love from the hip-hop community, Bieber has now finagled his way into Dr. Dre's studio.

To the surprise of hip-hop fans, the 16-year-old took to Twitter on Monday to announce his one-on-one session with the legendary West Coast rapper/producer. "Also got to be in the studio with the legend himself Dr. Dre ... made a couple beats and he gave me some advice ... I was hyped. Can u blame me?" he wrote.

We have a little trouble visualizing the exchange between the two, but we can only hope that Bieber encouraged Dre to get back to work on his forthcoming album 'Detox,' which has been over a decade in the making.

THE BOOM BOX
Dr. Dre is a legendary music producer. He helped launched many big careers in hip hop and is the secret behind the success of people like Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Tupac. I got my fingers crossed that Scooter doesn't waste this opportunity and get Dr. Dre to produce a track for Justin's next album and maybe throw in a 'featuring Nicki Minaj'. That would be hot.

Hopefully something like this awesome Baby remix:

Justin Bieber Ryan Butler Eminem

Damn Ryan sure is a lucky guy. Doesn't he ever have to go to school?

"And yah his jeans is skinny but I'm sure his pocket's fat" lol. Somehow I think you have to have fat pockets to purchase JB's kind of skinny jeans.

With all the haters out there it's refreshing to see some love for JB from not just a guy, but from a brother (brother means black guy for those who don't already know). A straight, black, male who claims to be a huge Justin Bieber fan. It's as rare as they come. ahahaha

What do you think of Devin's rap for Justin? Devin is a visitor of JBShrine so he'll be reading any comments you guys leave.

P. Diddy (l.) says Justin Bieber (r.) deserves to be on BET stage.

Pop star Justin Bieber may be raising eyebrows for receiving a BET award nomination, but Diddy's got his back.

"The awards are important to hip hop and to show [hip-hop artists] in the right light," the mogul said at the network press conference on Tuesday.

"But the beauty of BET is, if Justin Bieber's hot, then he deserves to be on that stage," said Diddy. "Sometimes, at other award shows, the color of your skin or the type of music you make takes away from getting the accolade you deserve."

NY DAILY NEWS

It's the music and not the color of your skin that counts. A white person should be eligible to be nominated if they make R&B music. Just like a black person should be eligible to be nominated for a country award if they sing country. Simple.

I am 16, and I thought that you'd be mine
Used to tweet you and text you and call you and meet you on facebook all the time
But now you're gone, so far along that I can't even find you,
you know that feeling when you leave your love and she's behind you.
Cant believe she did me wrong
we were on iChat all night long
listening to our favourite song
She was wrong, I am gone.
I thought I loved her never, but no one above her,
Yeah she was my lover but now on to another. :D

I posted the video before but it got taken down. Justin freestyled on Select Live in NZ during the interview but you don't totally appreciate his skillz until someone decided to put a beat behind it. Watch the video while it's still up.
