POP sensation Justin Bieber will have bodyguards on and off stage at tonight’s Golden Globes – to keep cruel Ricky Gervais at bay.
The 16-year-old superstar, who has six million followers on Twitter, has been lined up to present an award at the film bash in Los Angeles.
Brit comic Ricky, 49, is hosting the event for the second year running.But after his wild performance last year, in which he poked fun at stars including Sir Paul McCartney, Mel Gibson, Angelina Jolie and Steve Carell, the A-listers are on red alert.
And none more than young Justin who plans to avoid The Office star before he hits the stage – in case he gives Ricky any ammo for jokes.
He showed up at Friday’s Critics Choice Movie Awards sporting a fake moustache and glasses...but to keep Ricky at arm’s length tonight he will be surrounded by a team of minders backstage before the ceremony begins.
And when he does present a gong, Justin will be accompanied by his newly muscle-bound actor pal Zac Efron to deflect any gags at his expense.
Our Golden Globes source said:
“Justin is very concerned about being the butt of Ricky’s jokes.
“The organisers were asked not to let him have to go on the stage alone and face Ricky – hence Zac Efron’s appearance alongside him.
“And his team are not going to let him anywhere near Justin when he is backstage.
“In fact it looks as if Justin will arrive at the last possible time to keep out of Ricky’s way!
“He’s petrified of being made to look a fool. Let’s face it, Ricky wouldn’t spare him just because he’s a kid!”
Last year, controversial Ricky sparked gasps from the star-packed audience with his opening line: “Looking at all the faces here makes me remember all the great work that’s been done this year by cosmetic surgeons.”
Later he got personal, appearing on stage for one link with a beer saying: “I like a drink as much as the next man…unless the next man is Mel Gibson.”
Stars up for gongs include Natalie Portman, Jake Gyllenhaal and Brit Colin Firth, whose movie The King’s Speech leads the way with seven nominations.
